Oura is taking a minimalist approach to the next generation of wearable technology, introducing the Oura Ring 5 with a noticeably slimmer profile while expanding the health features available through its growing digital ecosystem.

The new smart ring, available for pre-order ahead of its June 4 shipping date, starts at $399 and is designed to appeal to users who want continuous health tracking without wearing a traditional smartwatch.

Smaller Hardware, Broader Capabilities

Although the Ring 5 is physically smaller than previous versions, Oura says it delivers the same core health monitoring users expect while introducing additional wellness tools through its companion app.

The device tracks familiar metrics including heart rate, activity levels, stress, sleep quality and recovery. It also adds optional features that allow users to import laboratory results, receive personalized guidance for GLP-1 medications, participate in cognitive health studies, ask health-related questions through AI-powered tools, and connect with healthcare professionals. Many of these software features are also being introduced across Oura’s broader platform.

Battery life has also improved, with Oura estimating between six and nine days on a single charge depending on usage.

A Fashion-First Approach to Wearable Tech

Unlike many health wearables that prioritize screens and notifications, Oura continues to position its smart ring as a discreet accessory that blends into everyday style.

The Ring 5 is available in six finishes, including Silver, Black, Brushed Silver, Stealth, Gold and Deep Rose. Base models begin at $399, while premium finishes are priced at $499.

That design philosophy has helped the brand gain visibility among celebrities and public figures, with stars including Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian and Gwyneth Paltrow previously seen wearing Oura rings.

Subscription Model Remains

Purchasing the Ring 5 includes one month of Oura Membership at no additional cost. After the trial period, access to the company’s full suite of health insights requires a subscription costing $5.99 per month or $69.99 annually.

The Oura app remains central to the overall experience, presenting sleep, readiness and activity scores alongside long-term health trends and personalized recommendations.

Why the Launch Matters

The wearable health market has become increasingly competitive as consumers seek devices that monitor wellness without requiring constant interaction. Smart rings have emerged as an alternative to traditional smartwatches by offering continuous biometric tracking in a smaller, less intrusive form.

Industry reviewers describe the Ring 5 as a refinement rather than a dramatic hardware overhaul. Its thinner construction and lighter weight are viewed as the most significant physical improvements, while many of the newest software capabilities are also being rolled out to existing Oura users.

What Comes Next

The Ring 5 arrives as competition in the smart ring segment continues to grow, with established technology companies and newer wearable brands expanding their own health-focused products. Oura appears to be doubling down on its combination of discreet design, subscription-powered health insights and advanced wellness tracking as it looks to maintain its position in the rapidly evolving market.
