The buyer behind one of the most expensive condominium transactions in Los Angeles history has been revealed as Canadian heiress Taylor Thomson, who purchased the penthouse at the prestigious Sierra Towers for $36 million. The high-profile sale ranks among the city’s largest luxury condo deals and shines a spotlight on one of Southern California’s most recognizable residential addresses.
Thomson, 66, is the only daughter of Canada’s Thomson family, whose fortune is tied to the Thomson Reuters media empire. Her acquisition ends speculation over the identity of the purchaser after the record-setting sale became public last week.
A Residence at One of Hollywood’s Most Famous Addresses
Perched atop Sierra Towers, the residence spans approximately 7,365 square feet and includes three bedrooms and six bathrooms. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls, soaring ceilings and premium materials—including white oak, limestone and quartzite finishes—are among the features highlighted in the property’s listing.
Designed by mid-century architect Jack Charney, Sierra Towers has long been considered one of Los Angeles’ most exclusive residential buildings. Situated on the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, the tower has attracted an impressive list of entertainment industry figures over the decades, with current and former residents reportedly including Elton John, Cher, Sandra Bullock, Courteney Cox, Adam Sandler, Joan Collins and the late Ozzy Osbourne.
Residents also have access to luxury amenities such as 24-hour concierge service, valet parking, security, a fitness center, swimming pool, spa, sauna and a ballroom.
Purchase Follows Crypto Investment Losses

The purchase comes after Thomson was widely reported to have suffered losses exceeding $80 million through cryptocurrency investments managed by former friend Ashley Richardson. Their relationship and the failed investments became the subject of significant media attention following reports detailing their personal friendship and involvement in a cryptocurrency project that ultimately collapsed.
Despite those financial setbacks, the latest acquisition underscores Thomson’s continued presence in the ultra-luxury real estate market.
Why the Sale Matters
Luxury residential transactions at Sierra Towers are closely watched because of the building’s reputation and limited inventory. Sales at the property are relatively rare, making high-value deals significant indicators of demand at the top end of Los Angeles’ real estate market.
The $36 million purchase also reflects the continued appeal of trophy properties despite broader uncertainty in parts of the housing sector. Prime residences in iconic buildings remain highly sought after by wealthy buyers looking for exclusivity, security and prestige.
What Comes Next
Neither Thomson’s representatives nor those involved in the transaction have publicly commented on the purchase. While the sale closes the mystery surrounding the buyer’s identity, it is expected to remain one of Los Angeles’ defining luxury real estate transactions of 2026.
