Bijou Phillips has taken another step forward in her recovery after making her first public appearance since receiving a life-saving kidney transplant.
The 46-year-old actress was photographed enjoying a casual lunch with her boyfriend, fashion entrepreneur Jamie Mazur, in Malibu, California, over the weekend. The outing came roughly two weeks after Phillips revealed she had undergone the successful transplant following months of serious health challenges.

Relaxed Outing Marks Recovery Milestone
For the lunch date, Phillips opted for a casual summer outfit, wearing a blue tank top, long denim shorts and a wide-brimmed sun hat as Southern California experienced high temperatures. She was seen sipping a bottled drink while dining outdoors with Mazur, who wore camouflage shorts and a white graphic T-shirt.
The couple, who have reportedly been together since 2024, appeared relaxed during the outing, offering a positive sign as Phillips continues recovering from major surgery.
A Long Battle With Kidney Disease
Earlier this month, Phillips announced that she had successfully undergone a kidney transplant at UCLA. In a message shared publicly, she praised her surgical team and expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout the process.
She credited transplant surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Veale for using a minimally invasive surgical technique that significantly eased her recovery, saying she required very little pain medication after the operation and was feeling much stronger only days later.
Second Transplant After Earlier Kidney Failure
The recent procedure marks Phillips’ second kidney transplant.
She previously received a donated kidney in 2017 after complications related to congenital kidney disease, a condition she has lived with since birth. Earlier this year, that transplanted kidney failed, forcing her to return to dialysis while awaiting another compatible donor.
In February, Phillips made a heartfelt public appeal for help finding a living donor, explaining that she hoped to have more time with her 12-year-old daughter, Fianna. Medical representatives at the time said she was receiving treatment at UCLA while waiting for a suitable transplant.
Family Support During the Journey
Following the successful surgery, Phillips revealed that her brother participated in a kidney exchange program, helping another patient receive a transplant while ultimately leading to a compatible donor being found for her.
She also thanked the medical staff, transplant coordinators and everyone who volunteered to be tested as potential donors, describing their support as life-changing.

Phillips’ appearance in Malibu signals an encouraging stage in her recovery after months of uncertainty surrounding her health.
